How Our Power Conversion Process Works
At Unit Conversion Hub, every conversion factor is defined in terms of the watt—the fundamental SI unit of power. This standardized approach ensures that our tool delivers fast, accurate, and reliable power conversions across a wide range of units.
Establishing the Base Unit for Power
All conversion factors in our tool are defined relative to the watt (W). For example:
- Watt (W): The fundamental SI unit of power, defined as one joule per second.
- Kilowatt (kW): 1 kW = 1×103 W.
- Megawatt (MW): 1 MW = 1×106 W.
- Gigawatt (GW): 1 GW = 1×109 W.
The Conversion Method
Our simple two-step process makes converting power straightforward:
- Step 1: Multiply the input value by its conversion factor (if it’s not already in watts) to express the power in watts.
- Step 2: Divide the power in watts by the conversion factor of the target unit to obtain the converted value.
For instance, to convert 5 kilowatts to horsepower:
- Convert to Watts: 5 kW × 1000 = 5000 W.
- Convert to Horsepower: 5000 W ÷ 745.7 W/horsepower ≈ 6.70 horsepower.
